Scrapbooking in January: Week 2 Challenges

I had a productive week and kept up with my challenges! I was able to find a pocket of time here and there to work on layouts and I allowed myself the freedom of leaving a project undone and coming back to it later. It helped me get 5 minutes here and there.

I put together a kit and photos for a mini album I want to work on. I guess it really isn't mini but it is a 9x9 album, so smaller than what I typically work with! Hopefully I'll have my first page done next week.

Then I worked on the Magical Scrapbook class from Shimelle and came up with this layout for my Disney album. It's another Star Wars Jedi Training one.

Next I wanted to scraplift a few layouts I found on Pinterest that used this design where they would have two smaller photos and 2 patterned papers int he background, one a 3x12 inch.

Next I wanted to use a technique I don't do very often. This time was "smooshing" with mist inks. I love how this looks, but I always seem to get nervous with mixed media. Luckily, this one turned out really pretty and I would love to give it another try soon. It's actually pretty easy to do!

The next challenge came from the Challenge Jar! This time I had to use triangles. I used my neglected triangle punches for this challenge. I find that I always go for circles and squares but I do like to mix it up every now and then. I liked this challenge.

I went back to the Magical Scrapbook class to work on a few more Disney layouts. This was a design that could work several ways so here are my layouts for that. I'm really not afraid to use those themed papers and embellishments! I have them so I'm going to use them!

And finally, in an attempt to Kill yet another Kit I have in my stash, I made this layout. I gutted those papers so I could use them again but I really liked the way it all felt like a messy stack. I have a feeling I will be trying this again!

Scrapbooking in February: Challenge 12

For this challenge from the Challenge Jar,

Scrapbook about yourself

This wasn't too hard for me, because I come across this challenge a lot through different blogs, videos, and groups I follow.

I used my February Counterfeit Kit, Purple Rain, to complete the challenge. I also watched the latest Glitter Girl adventure while making this layout so I followed along with her process and scraplifted as I went.

Scrapbooking in January: Collection Highlight

Skipping to Shimelle's Go Now Go collection in time for her blog post and Paper Issues' Product Spotlight challenge on Facebook!

I really haven't had the chance to play too much with this collection yet. I have been busy with my kits! I do love it, though. It has some travel pieces and then some versatile pieces to go with every day scrapping.

That was fun! I'm going to have to make some more layouts with this collection. Now that I have finally printed pictures from Egypt maybe I can work with this a little.

Scrapbooking in January: Collection Highlight 2

Today I did a layout with Shimelle's 2nd Collection: True Stories. I used a sketch from Hip Kits facebook challenge to use up some of my stash.

Out of all of her collections, this is actually the one I have used the most, even though it wasn't my favorite of hers! Other layouts I've done previously using this kit include:

January Scrapbooking: Collection Highlight

Shimelle is showing off her previous collections this week and inspired me to use some that I have in my stash. Using the first collection, I made this layout below.

I've made a lot of layouts with this collection. Here are some I found in the couple of albums I flipped through. I didn't have enough time to flip through them all!

Inspired by one of Shimelle's designs! her blog has a ton of inspiration.

Pumpkin Love

I've been having so much fun this Autumn with all of the traditional things to do and spending quality time with the family. I needed to get back into crafting again so these pictures have somewhere to go! But I'm determined to scrap some old photos first. Here is one from 6 years ago and I am working on one of Shimelle's challenges to use Autumn Colors.

NSD 2016 Challenge #30: Scenery

This layout is for an NSD challenge to Scrap Scenery. I chose a picture from the top of the Empire State Building in NYC. I have so many of these really old themed stickers that I love to use on these layouts.

NSD 2016 Challenge #29: Messy Background

For this Messy Background challenge from Shimelle's blog, I used water colors. The messy layouts are outside of my comfort zone so I didn't aim for perfection and really put a lot of paint on there.

NSD 2016 Challenge #28: Repeat a Shape

The next NSD challenge I did was one where you needed to repeat a shape. They had some terrific examples on Shimelle's blog. I decided I wanted to use up some of my scraps. I picked up three arrow punches and went a little bit crazy. Then I very messily glued them onto the background in no particular order or line.

Here is me and the Hubby arriving at the airport in Jamaica and enjoying our first Red Stripe beers.

NSD 2016 Challenge #27: Stamping

This Challenge from NSD on Shimelle's blog was to use a Simple Stamping Technique . The idea was to stamp small images, color them in and cut them out and then put them right on the photo.

I chose a small flower from Shimelle's Starshine stamps and another flower from the Amy Tangerine Yes Please collection. I colored them in with colored pencils.

I used my April Hip Kit for the layout. I love the soft colors.

NSD 2016 Challenge # 26: Use Fabric or Lace

Shimelle hosted some NSD challenges on her blog and they are all due by the end of the weekend. I am working on a couple of them. Here is the first challenge to use fabric or lace in your layout.

NSD2016 Challenge #17: Using Stencils and Red and Blue

The Challenge was to use a stencil in two ways so I used a cotton ball and distress ink over this star stencil that was actually the trash from a board game after I took out all the star chips for the game. Then I used a pen and outlined all the stars.

I kept two other challenges in mind when I pulled out the star stencil: Shimelle's challenge to use red and blue and Mercy Tiara's challenge to create a background

NSD Challenge #13: Color Scheme Challenge

The last challenge on the Paper Issues NSD Challenges  was a color scheme challenge. I used papers from the Echo Park Playground collection and Shimelle's first collection and embellishments from Shimelle's Starshine collection to go along with the color scheme.

That's it for now as I go out for a Mother's Day dinner. Hopefully I will be back tonight with the next set of challenges! Who needs sleep anyway?

Dream Big Love: Using Arrows

This week on Shimelle.com the challenge was to use arrows in your layout

I used lots of arrows on patterned paper to make this layout. Most of the paper is from the Recorded line from Allison Kreft for Webster's Pages.

I'm getting very excited for NSD this weekend! I wrote down lots of challenges from various websites that I'm hoping to work on depending on how much free time I get!

Bonkers: Using Vellum

For the weekly challenge this week on Shimelle's Blog, we were challenged to use vellum on our layout. Luckily I have quite a few pieces in my scraps to use up. I used lots of papers from the True Stories collection and some fantastic Scotch patterned tape my mother gifted me recently.

Our Park

Last week's Glitter Girl episode inspired me to use an Amy Tangerine 6x6 paper pad that only had a few sheets left. Other than the background, the entire page used the 6x6 pad. I still have 3 or 4 papers left from that pad and cannot wait to use them up!

Newly Engaged!

The Weekly Challenge on Shimelle's blog is using a sketch. I've definitely used this sketch before but I'm not even sure where the layout is in my many books I have so I can't compare the one I just did with it. If I find it I will update the post. I have been using quite a few sketches lately so this was no problem!

This picture is a few years old so the lovely couple in the pictures are happily married now. They were standing on the starting line in the Stadium in Olympia in this picture.

I have to say I just love using this pinked circle. It adds a nice touch.

Destination Adventure

Today's layout was made using this sketch from the Scrapbook Challenge Blog. I loved the sketch because it used a line of photos down the center and I knew I could substitute a 4x6 card for one of the pictures. Anyone else have so many of these cards and not doing Project Life? I do pocket page style albums (one for Christmas and one for my high school pictures) but I don't do the standard Project Life everyday. I still somehow keep collecting these cards!

I used Shimelle's True Stories line and a map from the Sesame Place theme park (Langhorne) to show where we were when the photos were taken.

I busted out my Cuttlebug, too! I love using tools that I don't think to use with every layout! This pinked circle set is one of my favorites. This one is called Darice Nesting Scallop Circles. As you can see, they are more sharp than a scallop circle, but who am I to judge?

Thank you for stopping by to see my work!
