February Scrapping

I have been working away on some other crafts and reading so I haven't scrapped as much as I would have liked in the last week or so but I did manage to get some things done. I worked on some mini albums in addition to a few layouts below. My major goals for the month are to work in my Valentine's album, Christmas album (from a few years ago!), and more for the Disney album. These layouts did not fit the plan but they all used up some kits so I'm happy for that!

Scrapbooking in January: Week 2 Challenges

I had a productive week and kept up with my challenges! I was able to find a pocket of time here and there to work on layouts and I allowed myself the freedom of leaving a project undone and coming back to it later. It helped me get 5 minutes here and there. 

I put together a kit and photos for a mini album I want to work on. I guess it really isn't mini but it is a 9x9 album, so smaller than what I typically work with! Hopefully I'll have my first page done next week. 

Then I worked on the Magical Scrapbook class from Shimelle and came up with this layout for my Disney album. It's another Star Wars Jedi Training one.  

Next I wanted to scraplift a few layouts I found on Pinterest that used this design where they would have two smaller photos and 2 patterned papers int he background, one a 3x12 inch. 

Next I wanted to use a technique I don't do very often. This time was "smooshing" with mist inks. I love how this looks, but I always seem to get nervous with mixed media. Luckily, this one turned out really pretty and I would love to give it another try soon. It's actually pretty easy to do! 

The next challenge came from the Challenge Jar! This time I had to use triangles. I used my neglected triangle punches for this challenge. I find that I always go for circles and squares but I do like to mix it up every now and then. I liked this challenge. 

I went back to the Magical Scrapbook class to work on a few more Disney layouts. This was a design that could work several ways so here are my layouts for that. I'm really not afraid to use those themed papers and embellishments! I have them so I'm going to use them! 

And finally, in an attempt to Kill yet another Kit I have in my stash, I made this layout. I gutted those papers so I could use them again but I really liked the way it all felt like a messy stack. I have a feeling I will be trying this again! 

Scrapbooking in January - Week 1 Challenges

I discussed some of the goals I had already for this year and so far I am on track. I worked on a mini album and made 5 layouts this week, including 1 Disney layout. 

The first challenge was to work on my mini album, which I did, but didn't grab a picture of it just yet! 

The next challenge was to use one of the stash kits I had sitting in a bin. I made this kit a while back and it was perfect for a single page. I am a huge fan of doilies lately. And I was so happy to cut into that transparency paper. Sometimes I hold onto those for way too long!

The next challenge was a Jar Challenge. I had to use a color wheel. I went online and chose the following colors using the Triad option.

I went to work, first taking papers from my 100 papers bin. Then I took out one embellishment sheet that had all the colors I was looking for and found this picture of my son wearing pretty much the same colors for his school picture this year. It all worked out pretty quickly. 

Next I had to "Kill" a Kit on Friday. I made two layouts, but one has a class picture with school sign so I decided not to post that one. The other layout is below. I have been holding onto this book paper for a while now knowing that I wanted to use some pictures I've taken this year while reading. I am so happy I decided to focus on reading again so I wanted to make a layout about it. 

Finally, I used the Hip Kits Club Sketch  from this week to create the layout below for my Sketch Saturday. I am thrilled with how my Disney Album is turning out. I did take Shimelle's Disney class over the summer and hope to finish going through all the videos and sketches to make even more layouts for this project.

Scrapbooking in May: Sketch Challenge

I found a sketch challenge on the Hip Kits Club member forum. I used more of my April Counterfeit Kit, Something There, to make mine. I love how it turned out. I'm excited by the green and using so much of the heart paper I liked.

I was looking at the Paper Issues April Challenges and found a sketch challenge I wanted to do along with a Jar Challenge. 

Use lots of wood veneer

To complete this challenge, I used my March Hip Kit and pulled out all of my wood veneer. I have so much stashed in these bead cases. 

I think I have maybe 1 or 2 more layouts I can make with this Hip Kit before I move on to my April Counterfeit kit and those page kits I made this week. Luckily I have no shortage of challenges to complete! 

  

Scrapbooking in March: Challenge 29

I'm excited about this next challenge because I had to play on the computer a bit before getting to work:

Create a Sketch and then make 2 layouts with it

First, I used photoshop to come up with the sketch. In all honesty, I went through an older one of my scrapbooks and selected a layout I liked and then created a sketch from it. 

I liked the idea of using bold patterns in the background since there was so much space for them to be displayed. So here is my first layout, using my February Hip Kit and March Counterfeit Kit. It is bold! 

Next I used 1 photo in place of 2 for a Halloween Themed layout. The completely different products and time line help create enough distance in my albums that you wouldn't notice they were created with the same sketch unless sitting side by side.

Use a Long Title

I chose a picture of my mother and used some of the beautiful pieces of my January Hip Kit.

Use Someone Else's Handwriting 

My thoughts immediately went to something I have been wanting to try: using the silhouette to cut out a sentiment written by my grandmother from one of the cards I had saved. It was tedious, but I'm glad I finally did it! 

The papers and tag also had a script/handwritten font on them that really went with my theme. I used butterflies throughout the page and popped up their wings on pop dots. 

It was hard to glue this all down! I need one of those thin glue applicators I think. Another trip to the craft store is in my near future. 

Scrapbooking in February: Working with a Kit

I did a sketch challenge this time that I found on Hip Kits Club's Facebook . They do weekly challenges on their facebook group and I like to play along when I can, especially with my Hip Kit! 

I think I will move onto my Counterfeit Kit from here. I have a test coming up so I'm not sure how much scrapping will get done but I find it helps me de-stress from studying so I'll have to make time! 

Also, Joann's just started bringing in some of American Craft's newer items. I just purchased Shimelle's new paper pad for Little by Little along with some Pink Paislee 6x6 paper pads. Those might show up in my next few layouts, too! 

Scrapbooking in February: Challenge 6

I used a challenge from the challenge jar today and need to use song lyrics in my title. I seriously just did something similar for another project so I had to laugh when I pulled the challenge out of the jar! This time I used the lyrics to "Cheers" from Rihanna and used my Hip Kit from December. 

A lovely picture of me and my younger yet much taller cousin. The windows reminded me of all the windows of the buildings that lined the main street of this town we were in for a wedding. It was on the rooftop of one of the buildings and we had the most beautiful view. 

Scrapbooking in February: Working with a Kit

Working on my December Hip Kit I did a challenge for the Paper Issues Facebook where you needed to use love, heart, or a song title for your title. I chose "Friday I'm In Love" because my husband's last name is Friday. 

I love the bright colors in this kit. I'm never disappointed with my Hip Kit, they always turn out so pretty! 

Scrapbooking in January: Working with a Kit Part 2

I had a lot of fun with the pinks and aqua in my November Hip Kit. Pink happens to be his favorite color so I don't mind using so much of it on his layouts. 

I love cut apart sheets that you can use all over the page. 

I only had a little bit of the paper left so this is the last page I did with the kit, a simple one with lovely colors:

Scrapbooking in January: Working with a Kit

My Hip Kits are so pretty that sometimes I worry about cutting into them. But I got brave and did it anyway with this winter themed layout. Lots of pinks and whites instead of the blues I was working with all month long. 

They included a lot of exclusive die cut pieces this time and I was so happy to use a lot of them on this page. 




Then I did another page with the kit, also winter themed. I loved the little cozy birds and houses paper but wasn't sure how to use them. I think this worked out well for the pictures of my son staring at the snow from our porch. He was in awe of the magic of snow.

Scrapbooking in January: Counterfeit Kit Layout 7

I did it! I officially "killed" my January Counterfeit Kit, Tip of the Iceberg. I was so excited to get a lot of winter themed layouts done this time around, along with a couple of travel ones. I actually almost finished an entire 12x12 sticker sheet, too! That almost never happens - especially one that was purchased so recently. I am calling this a win, for sure. 

I have some time now before February begins to work on my November Hip Kit. I am so far behind on using up my Hip Kits! This one is just lovely, too.

Looks like I can finish doing some more winter-themed layouts with this kit! In colors other than the navy I used all throughout my Counterfeit Kit. I have plenty of winter photos so this works out great. 

Scrapbooking in January: Counterfeit Kit Layout 6

For this layout that I completed with my January Counterfeit Kit, I followed a sketch from Hip Kits Club. I cut up a lot of pieces of one paper and layered them behind a photo. The sketch had so many layers and it looked all crazy in the middle so I hope I accomplished that!

Scrapbooking in January: Collection Highlight 2

Today I did a layout with Shimelle's 2nd Collection: True Stories. I used a sketch from Hip Kits facebook challenge to use up some of my stash. 

Out of all of her collections, this is actually the one I have used the most, even though it wasn't my favorite of hers! Other layouts I've done previously using this kit include:

Use Pastels

I guess I tend to use a lot of brights and neutrals. I never really think about it. This time I made sure to use some pastels though.

I used more of my October Hip Kit. I have a few pieces of it left but I think I'm going to put it all in my stash and focus on my Counterfeit Kit for a bit. 

Scrapbooking in January

It's a new year!! Yay! 

This week I am working with my October Hip Kit. I had taken a break from Scrapbooking for most of December since I was so busy with daily activities with my family. Now I can get back into the swing of things and catch up on some of my kits. 

I adore this kit. It has navys and such pretty blues and pinks. Gold accents were available in the thickers and the ephemera pack. I have made a few pages earlier on in November with the kit but I still have a lot left to work on. Here are two layouts I just made with the kit. 

January 1st was the other day and the new Counterfeit Kit is up! I'm excited to get started with it. I am hoping to complete some challenges using the kit and some other things around the room.

I focused on the different shades of blues, some naturals, and lots of extra pieces to use. I am happy with it and how lovely those colors are!
